The accomplice

Boy Vereecken runs an international, independent, Brussels-based office for editorial design and Art Direction, founded in 2010. Focusing on printed matter and site-specific installations, and describing his methodology as "As Found" bringing a vital flexibility to today's visual identity language.

Long term collaborations are for a wide variety of institutions include; KIOSK (Ghent), La Loge (Brussels), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna) and Kunstencentrum nona (Mechelen). Our interests lie in thinking of identities as vehicles for content both digital as in printed matter, structure more then logo,to diversify the needs of every segment of communication within a bigger institution.

For KIOSK¿s identity a generating font was designed and installed. This created an ever changing language transcending on all communication formats. For La Loge, the symbol of the eye was chosen to connect La Loge¿s previous use of the building (masonic temple), and it contemporary use, by adding a reflection dot, the eye is an ever changing vehicle and is continually reflecting La Loge¿s program. And as for the Kunsthalle in Vienna, a collection of eagles is accumulated by pursuing image rights and credits from stock image banks, these in reference to Marcel Broodthaerts's Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles, Section des Figures: Der Adler vom Oligozän bis heute, translating the Kunsthalle's critical program, rather then the institute or its building. For the Kunsthalle¿s Visual Identity he received the German Design Award in 2014 in the category Communication Design. In 2016 his design for Harvard's periodical VVV (Vari, Very, Veri) won the Walter Tiemann's encouragement prize.

Recent collaborations and projects as editorial designer are: Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel, "Body of Work" (Walter Koenig Books), Jana Euler, "Where the energy comes from", Peter Wächtler, "Jolly Rogers", (Sternberg Press), Ezio Gribaudo, "Logogrifo, Palm Tree, Cactus, de Chirico, Dino, Pinocchio & Publishing", (Nero Publishing), Benoit Platéus, "One Inch Off", (Walter Koenig Books), Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, "Mondo Cane", (Mercatorfonds), Annette Kelm, "Tomato Target", (Sternberg Press) and Laura Herman & Henry Andersen, "The floor is uneven, does it slope? On Gins & Arakawa", (Mousse Publishing). In 2019 he completed his doctoral studies at Sint Lucas Antwerp and the University of Antwerp, the phd resulted in an exhibition and two publications, Signature Strengths and Herewith the Clues, both published by Sternberg Press in Berlin.
